Dear Neighbourhood Link Member,

Good Afternoon, and I hope you are well!

Here is an update on neighbourhood policing in Syston, Thurmaston and surrounding villages from the week starting 06/10:

What have the neighbourhood team been doing?

High Visibility/Reassurance Patrols – in our ‘hot spot’ areas

PCSO 6098 conducted a beat surgery in Syston town square, engaging with local residents and business’s.

On 9/10, PCSO 6024 and 6098 had the wonderful opportunity to visit Bishop Ellis Catholic primary school in Thurmaston as part of our ongoing commitment to building positive relationships within the community. They also met with the headteacher to discuss any concerns or issues that the school may be facing.

Colleagues from our response and NPT team's were able to assist with dismantling a cannabis grow situated in a residential area. Concerns were raised by the local community which led to us uncovering the grow.

This is just a selection of what the neighbourhood team have been doing, we have also been completing crime investigations, partnership working with other agencies and engaging with residents and businesses in the area.

Our Priorities

The community has raised concerns about anti-social behaviour (ASB), particularly involving quad bikes and groups of rowdy youths gathering in parks and recreational areas.
A joint site visit with Charnwood Borough Council (CBC) was conducted at Thorpebury in the Limes to assess access issues and explore potential solutions. Discussions with developers are planned to address these concerns.
Regular targeted patrols continue in Thorpebury in the Limes and Checkland Road and Thurmaston to monitor ASB and provide community reassurance.

The community has raised concerns about speeding and parking issues across various locations in the Charnwood East area.
Officers delivered a road safety talk to children at the local Rainbows group to promote early awareness.
A poster detailing Section 59 power notice has been placed at Thorpebury in the Limes and Thurmaston Retail Park to warn against anti-social vehicle use and outline the consequences.
During a recent car cruise event, local police, supported by traffic units, attended and issued Section 59 notices to several vehicles involved in anti-social driving. Engagement is ongoing with Church Hill School in Thurmaston and the camera car team have been asked to attend and to address parking concerns, and letters are being prepared for schools to share with parents to encourage safer and more considerate parking practices.

Retail theft has emerged as a growing concern within the beat, with several stores being repeatedly targeted. In response, the team has collected CCTV footage to assist in identifying offenders and progressing investigations. Officers have conducted regular patrols at Thurmaston Retail Park and Tesco in Syston to provide a visible presence and deter further incidents. Engagement with store staff is ongoing, including beat surgeries held at retail locations to strengthen partnerships and gather intelligence. Efforts continue to identify those responsible and reduce the impact of retail crime on local businesses.
